Mouser Now Shipping RF Digital’s Simblee BLE Series

New IoT System Aims to Connect Everyone and Everything

March 22, 2016 - Mouser Electronics, Inc. is now shipping the highly anticipated Simblee™ Bluetooth^® Low Energy (BLE) module and development tools from RF Digital. The Simblee product line sets itself apart by allowing device developers to embed mobile apps in devices themselves, passing interface information over Bluetooth wireless technology to the Simblee for Mobile app on a mobile device. The Simblee module integrates BLE functionality into embedded mobile apps using the Arduino integrated development environment (IDE), helping designers to begin developing mobile apps and Internet of Things (IoT) networks without first having to learn Xcode or Android software development kits (SDKs).

The RF Digital RFD77101 Simblee module, now available from Mouser Electronics, is a 2.4 GHz radio transceiver with a built-in ARM^® Cortex^®-M0 microcontroller with 128kBytes of flash memory and 24 kBytes of RAM and BLE stack. In addition to Bluetooth connectivity, the 10 × 7 × 2mm module features robust physical connectivity, including 29 general-purpose inputs/outputs (GPIOs), six analog-to-digital converter (ADC) inputs, four PWM outputs, two SPI busses, two I²C busses, and a UART interface. Designers can mount the Simblee module directly on a circuit board to start creating products from scratch, or can prototype new products using one of the RF Digital development tools.

The RFD77201 Simblee 7-pin RFduino adapter board plugs into RFduino shields for simple prototyping and programming. RFD77201 enables designers to easily program the Simblee module through seven of the module's 29 GPIOs. The RFD77203 Simblee 29-Pin breakout board lets designers to access all of the Simblee module's 29 GPIOs with flexible pin configuration that allows every usable pin to act as digital I/O, PWM, UART, SPI and I²C.

Mouser is also stocking three kits for working with the Simblee module and RFduino environment. The RFD77801 Simblee Starter Kit contains the RFD77201 Simblee 7-pin adapter board, an RFduino USB programming shield, and an RFduino RGB LED/button shield. The RFD77802 Simblee Project Kit helps designers develop device-to-device communications with SimbleeCOM, a high-performance, low latency, wireless professional protocol optimized for high-noise environments. The Project Kit includes two Simblee 29-pin breakout boards, two RFduino USB programming shields, two RFduino RGB LED/button shields, and two 2×AAA battery shields. The RFD77803 Simblee Development Kit helps designers quickly build Simblee prototypes, and includes 16 shields from the Simblee development environment, including one 7-pin adapter board and two 29-pin breakout boards.
