The STUSB4531 is the industry's first USB PD 3.2 sink controller to offer a hybrid mode. The STUSB4531 PD controller simplifies the development of battery-charging and VBUS-powered electronics in set-top boxes, cameras, healthcare and handheld devices, LED lighting, and any other type-C/PD sink device. The STUSB4531 is also ideal for USB micro-B and DC barrel replacement.
The STMicroelectronics STUSB4531 USB PD controller, now at Mouser, includes a hardwired USB PD stack that implements proprietary algorithms to enable software-free negotiation. This feature makes the STUSB4531 suitable for automatic high-power profile charging, especially from a dead battery power state. The STUSB4531 also offers a hybrid mode that supports full-feature applications with a minimal external software layer, simplifying the implementation of optional USB PD features. In hybrid mode, an external application processor can interact with the stack and leverage the USB PD communication protocol layers, enabling engineers to implement alternate modes, battery messaging, data role swapping, and vendor-defined messages (VDM).
The STUSB4531 controller enables the adoption of USB-C for charging and powering devices, in line with international mandates to reduce electronic waste. The STUSB4531 USB PD controller is certified to the latest USB Type-C® 2.4 and USB PD 3.2 standards, as well as to IEC 62680 for EU conformity.
