SiTime SiT9005 Spread Spectrum Oscillators
SiTime SiT9005 Spread Spectrum Oscillators support output frequencies from 1MHz to 141MHz with six-decimal-place accuracy and offer a flexible spread spectrum configuration. These oscillators address electromagnetic interference (EMI) compliance challenges that often arise late in the design cycle and delay product certification and production. Because emissions testing typically occurs near project completion, failures can trigger troubleshooting, board-level rework, and schedule slips. The SiT9005 mitigates this risk by integrating two configurable EMI reduction techniques, spread spectrum clocking and rise/fall time control, which together reduce emissions by up to 17dB on the carrier frequency and up to 30dB on harmonics.
Specifications include a center spread up to ±2.0%, with a down spread to -4.0%, and engineers can choose triangular or Hershey-Kiss modulation profiles to match system timing requirements. Eight selectable rise/fall time options provide additional spectral shaping, while cycle-to-cycle jitter of 8.5ps minimizes the impact of spread modulation on timing budgets. Frequency stability options of ±20ppm, ±25ppm, and ±50ppm support operating ranges from −20°C to +70°C and −40°C to +85°C, with supply options spanning 1.8V and 2.5V to 3.3V.
Field programmability via SiTime’s Time Machine II oscillator programmer allows the adjustment of spread parameters and drive strength at the bench and validates emissions performance in real time, eliminating the need to order new samples and repeat validation cycles. The SiT9005 is available in industry-standard packages: 2.0mm × 1.6mm, 2.5mm × 2.0mm, and 3.2mm × 2.5mm. Larger package options are available on request, enabling drop-in replacement without board redesign. Based on MEMS architecture, the device replaces quartz oscillators, avoids shielding and absorber materials, maintains stable spread-spectrum modulation under vibration and temperature stress, and provides a plug-and-play solution that accelerates time-to-market in EMI-sensitive applications.
