Nordic Semiconductor BLUETOOTH® LE Audio Auracast™

Nordic Semiconductor BLUETOOTH® LE Audio Auracast™ is the broadcast capability of Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) Audio that lets one audio source stream to unlimited nearby listeners without pairing. The device utilizes LE Isochronous Channels and the LC3 codec to deliver one-to-many audio with quality comparable to or higher than Classic Bluetooth, while simultaneously operating at lower bitrates and power.

Auracast delivers scalable audio for personnel use and public applications such as:

• Audio sharing: Multiple users can listen to the same shared audio broadcast of a video or song using personal Auracast earbuds, headphones, or hearing aids
• Audio broadcasts from TVs and screens: Multiple users can receive broadcasts from a single muted TV in a bar or gym
• Audio broadcasts from public address, signage, and sound systems: Never miss a train announcement again, in stations, airports, and transport hubs, important messages can be broadcast across devices, expanding accessibility for visitors with hearing aids
• Replacement of current telecoil solutions for public venue hearing aid systems

Venues can easily add Auracast by plugging a stand-alone LE Audio transmitter into existing line-level outputs without installing perimeter cabling as with hearing loops.

A Nordic Auracast-ready earbud or receiver layers LE Audio profiles such as the Basic Audio Profile (BAP) and the Public Broadcast Profile (PBP), with an assistant interface for discovery, and (optional) broadcast codes for controlled access. The result is a scalable one-to-many audio with lower latency and improved battery life compared to Classic Bluetooth.
